The Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District: HSWCD is holding their annual spring tree seedling giveaway for Henrico County residents on Friday, March 21 at the Hermitage High School parking lot, 8301 Hungary Spring Road. Trees will be given away free of charge beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing as long as supplies last.

HSWCD will offer 15 species of bare-root seedlings, including red bud, white and red osier dogwood, bald cypress, red maple, river birch, green ash, winterberry holly and white pine. For info about species and planting guidelines: www.co.henrico.va.us/swcd

The Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District: HSWCD Build-A-Barrel workshops can each you how to harvest rainwater from your roof and divert it for on-site usage in the landscape.

Workshops are available to Henrico County residents and are approximately 2 hours long. Participants learn how to build, install and maintain a rain barrel. Barrels and materials are provided and participants work as a team to put together their very own barrel.

A materials fee of approximately $40 is required to participate in workshops.

Additional barrels may be available for purchase. These barrels are available only to workshop participants and those who have participated in previous workshops. Supply of additional barrels is usually limited. Additional barrels are available only during specified times, in conjunction with scheduled workshops. Henricopolis SWCD does not maintain a supply of barrels for distribution.
